April 2009
Jumping on the trampoline with kids is exhausting. They take all your bounce away and your legs get a super workout. I laid down after a few minutes of bouncing when Bastian said to me, "Get up you tired, old mom."
We put balls on the trampoline and all of them kept flocking to me because I was the heaviest one on the trampoline. Bastian had a different idea as to why they were drawn to me. He said, "It's because they think you're gorgeous."
May 2009Weston said he likes his cereal soggy. I said, "but not too soggy." He said, "Yeah, just one soggy." That sheds some light on the fact that he often asks for too much ice cream!
Weston made himself a sandwich for lunch. It was a cracker sandwich. No, this isn't two crackers with cheese or sliced deli meat in between them. This sandwich was two pieces of bread with wheat thins in the middle. I said, "You don't want to eat a cracker sandwich for lunch. It doesn't even taste good." He argued, "It's yum to me."
When Hayden found out he was in the city newspaper for winning the 5th grade chess tournament he exclaimed, "Yes! Fame and fortune are MINE!"
Bastian was bothering Weston by giving him too many kisses. Weston finally said, "When I say no, I mean no."
I, Rachel, was whining that I was tired and didn't feel like going to the store. Abby reminded me, "You have to go to the store, Mom. There's trials." Yes, pushing through fatigue and going to the store was my trial that day.
Weston threw a candy wrapper on the floor of our van and I said, "Our car isn't a garbage can." Weston said, "Oh, I thought it was."
June 2009The kids and I had a discussion on the importance of education and Hayden broke into song singing, "Jesus wants us to go tooooo SCHOOL." (Sung to the tune Jesus Wants Me For a Sunbeam)
Rob talking about laws with the kids: "There's the law of Physics, the law of gravity, the law of I'm going to spank your bottom....that's my favorite law."
Weston has a mole on his neck. I was rubbing his face and neck during sacrament meeting and he said, "Don't scratch my nipple, it will hurt." We now lovingly refer to it as his nipple.
Bastian and Abby were helping me make cookies. They wanted to crack the eggs. Bastian said, "Watch and learn. I am the master. Abby, you're my prentice."
During Sunday dinner, (which is always roast, potatoes, gravy, corn and rolls) Hayden said, "Abby can you pass the animal sauce, aka, gravy?"
Abby spent the night at Aunt Allison's house and I mentioned to Hayden the next day I needed to pick up Abby. Realizing she had been gone he said, "I knew something wasn't quite right."
We have a big BBQ spatula with sharp spikes on it. Hayden was unloading the dishwasher and started sword play with it saying, "I like wielding sharp objects." Then in a creepy whisper he said, "It makes me feel powerful."
Abby watched an old Marilyn Monroe movie at Aunt Allison's house and noticed how pointy the bras were back then. She pretended to have one on and said, "I've got boobs and I'm not afraid to use them."
July 2009
Abby found out that our neighbor, an active young woman in our ward, had pierced her tongue and eyebrow. While visiting with the girl Abby said, "Why did you do that? The prophet said not to pierce your body like that." The girl argued, "I can do what I want to." Abby said, "Do you want to do what's right or what you WANT to? The prophet speaks for the Lord. So if the Lord is telling you not to do it, you still WANT to?" The girl said, "Be quiet, Abby. You're making me mad." Then Abby said to me, "I wanted to say, 'no, I'm making SENSE!'" (We later found out that they were both fake piercings)
We were talking about the words phat and fat. Phat meaning cool and fat meaning overweight. Hayden said, "Uncle Joe is phat and our dad is both."
Looking out the window at dusk Weston said, "It's getting night time. The clouds are changing the sun into stars."
While eating at the restaurant Golden Corral Hayden said, "If this isn't what Heaven is like, I can't imagine it! Why have we been wasting our time at Chili's?"

Notable Quotables
March 2009
Weston to Mom: "I love you so much. I wish there were two of you."
Weston to Mom: "Did Jesus make our slobber?"
Weston to Mom: "I don't want to be baptized." I asked, "Why don't you want to be baptized?" "Because then I will belong to Jesus and I always want to belong to you." I let him know that Jesus wants him to be mine forever and ever and He is the only One that makes it possible.
Bastian after Weston threw up: "It looked like he was throwing up a super duper big chocolate shake."
Abby talking about her muscles: "The reason I have such big muscles is because I put yeast in them. My bread muscles will rise."
Bastian telling me his desire for the day: "I want a video game or piano lessons."
Summer 2009My mom Pauline Bastian wrote to my brother saying:
"I'm sitting here full of wisdom, and you're not asking questions."
I saw bruises on Bastian's ribs and asked, "What is that from?" To which he replied, "Oh, nothing. Just arrows." Grandpa LeBaron and Dad play a fun game with the kids (at least they think it's fun) called, "Arrow in: in or out." The person who shoots the arrow actually just pinches the other person pretty hard and you have to decide if you want them to keep pinching you or if you want them to slide the arrow out which is even more painful than the initial pinch. To get the arrow out, the pincher slowly pulls their pinching fingers off their skin. Don't be fooled. If you chose arrow out, another arrow is coming! (Sounds exactly like a game a boy or a man would think up!)
I was saying that one of my skills as a woman is that I grow people. Abby said, "I do too. I just haven't developed it yet."
While printing something on cardstock I explained to the kids that cardstock is a thicker, heavier paper. Bastian ran to get my printed document and said while picking it up, "Oh, this is VERY heavy....ohhhhhh."
Hayden was upset about something when Bastian said, "It looks like THE HAYDEN is mad."
Fall 2009
I came in to see how Bastian was doing in the bathtub when I saw him trying to wash his completely DRY hair with shampoo. I told him that he needed to get his hair wet. He said, "I wondered why it wasn't going so good."
Fall 2007-I know, a long time ago.
I was teaching the kids that the Lord's kingdom is filled with those who do the right things. Hayden said, "The Lord's kingdom is a kingdom of do-ers. Satan's kingdom is a kingdom of manures."
